A Magazine Curated By

Maison Martin Margiela (Limited Edition Reprint 2021)

A Magazine Curated By is a Belgian fashion magazine that explores the universe of a chosen fashion designer in each issue.
Since 2001, A Magazine invites a guest curator – an international fashion designer, group or house – to develop innovative, personalised content to express their aesthetic and cultural values in a unique, collectible document. Each issue celebrates this designer’s ethos: their people, their passion, their stories, emotions, fascinations, spontaneity and authenticity.

The name Margiela carries an irreverent weight that has aged prominently since the fashion house’ inception in 1988. Leaving his namesake company for good in 2009, Margiela’s fashion design style and technique is considered as of the most influential in the world. This legacy is further bolstered by his extreme lack of media presence as he preferred to let his runway shows and avant-garde garments express his voice.

Almost two decades since the initial release in 2004, A Magazine Curated by Maison Martin Margiela has just been reprinted in a limited edition in its original entirety. Each issue contains 1 of 6 unsigned archive prints of photography by Mark Borthwick, Anders Edström, Marina Faust, Jonathan Hallam, Paul Helbers & Ola Rindal, or Inge Grognard & Ronald Stoops.

A testament to the ongoing relevance of the founding ideals of the Maison Martin Margiela, this document celebrates the previously anonymous talents of the house. The pages explore the maisons dedication to such phenomena as the deconstruction of garment-making and the disruption of classical ideals in photography, street casting, unconventional beauty, subversive communication, and a Dadaist approach to the very concept of fashion and object design.
